November 5, 2021 – The Media Borough “Mask Up Media” Campaign was awarded a first place recognition in the Special Recognition Category in the Communications Contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB). The 2021 award winners were recognized at the PSAB Fall Leadership Conference in Erie on Saturday, October 9th.
The “Mask Up Media Campaign” was a multiple month campaign to raise awareness for mask wearing at mass gathering permitted events within the borough during the height of the pandemic and before vaccines were available (August of 2020 to December of 2020). During the August 2020 Borough Council meeting, Borough Council adopted Ordinance No. 1141 of 2020 – Requiring masks during mass gathering permitted events until the pandemic state of emergency has been lifted. In an effort to encourage compliance, residents and visitors to Media Borough were encouraged to send in photos of themselves wearing masks. The photos were shared on social media and on the borough’s website. This campaign was fun for residents and helped encourage mask usage in the business district and throughout the borough.
The Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB) is a statewide, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to serving 956 borough governments. Since 1911, PSAB has represented the interests of boroughs and helped to shape the laws that laid their foundation.
Today, the Association continues to improve and assist local governments through legislative advocacy, research, education, and other services. With more than 2.6 million Pennsylvanians residing in borough communities, their members strive to deliver quality leadership and service to citizens across the Commonwealth.
Today, boroughs represent 37.5 percent of all municipal governments in the Commonwealth. An average of 15 boroughs exist per county and nearly 20 percent of the state’s population resides in these communities.
PSAB’s primary objectives are to provide legislative/regulatory representation at both the state and federal levels; to promote constructive and cooperative relationships among boroughs and between PSAB and other levels of government; to deliver training and technical assistance to borough officials; and to provide cost-effective programs and services.
